April 4, 2025
Dear St’a7mes Families,
We are really enjoying the nicer weather, and as a school that loves being on the land, we are excited for the many opportunities ahead!
This week, our Learning Expeditions class had the honor of welcoming their pen pals from Quebec. We are incredibly proud of how our students extended a warm welcome to their peers from across the country through song, stories, and shared experiences on the land. It was a meaningful and enriching exchange for everyone involved.
Looking ahead, next week will be a busy one! We are preparing for a salmon release at Waiwakum, as well as the Herring Festival on Thursday. These events take an incredible amount of work to organize, and we are so grateful for the support from our school and the broader community in making them possible.
Additional Updates & Reminders:
- A huge thank you to Laura for organizing our Neufeld Farms fundraiser! The proceeds go directly back into the school, funding a variety of fantastic initiatives and events that benefit our students. Orders are due by April 7th and you can order by clicking the link above.
- We are currently conducting student learning surveys. In this update, you will find a link to the parent survey. Your input is invaluable in helping us gain a deeper understanding of our school community.
- As we make the final push toward the end of the school year, we are focusing on attendance habits. We understand that barriers can sometimes get in the way, and we are here to support families in overcoming them. Our school community will be having ongoing conversations about the importance of attendance, and we will be introducing incentives and events to encourage student engagement.
As always, we deeply appreciate your continued support!
Finally, we want to lift up the following students who lived by our values this week:
Tímit (perform something with all one's might) - Roxy
Wanáxws (respect, carrying oneself in a good way) - Farrah
Chén̓chenstway (together we hold each other up) - Shawna
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
Take care,
Cory Hartling

Student Learning Survey 2024/2025
The Provincial Student Learning Survey is unique in its scope, size and usefulness to schools. It gathers information from parents/guardians/caregivers, teachers, and students on topics related to school environment, safety, and achievement. The information is used for planning in individual schools and provides a district and provincial perspective.
Early in 2025 the Student Learning Survey will be administered to students in grades 4, 7, 10 and 11 their parents/guardians/caregivers, and all school staff. We encourage parents/guardians/caregivers to participate in this survey, as the results are important in identifying and celebrating current strengths, as well as determining where the school needs to focus improvement. The surveys contain standard questions for the Province – in addition, questions from the school and/or district that focus on local conditions or issues may be included.
The survey can be completed electronically and can be accessed on the Internet at https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/education-training/k-12/support/student-learning-survey. Any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection can be used, and access to the e-survey is simple and secure. The survey can be accessed through the link and by clicking on Take the Survey. On the login page, click on the Parents icon, and then select the school district and school name where your child attends school. Provincial, District and School Reports for previous years can be viewed at the same site under the Results section.
The e-survey site will be open until May 2, 2025.
If you have any questions, please contact the school.
