Dear St'a7mes School Families,
We’ve had another wonderful week at St'a7mes, and we're looking forward to an exciting and busy week ahead!
A big thank you to Ms. Kye and Ms. Laura for organizing a fantastic Terry Fox Run on Friday. The students showed great spirit and determination, and it was a wonderful way to come together as a school community.
Next week, we have a few important events lined up:
- Tuesday is Picture Day for our students! A big thank you to Gayle for coordinating everything.
- As part of our ongoing commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, we invite all families to join us for a special ceremony on Thursday, September 26th. Tea and refreshments will be served at 10:30 AM, followed by the ceremony at 11:10 AM. Our amazing students will be sharing their learning, songs, and actions they are taking to be good ancestors. We look forward to coming together as a community for this important event.
- I am excited to announce a new practice at our school! Starting this Monday, we will begin and end each week in a special way—through drumming, singing, and sharing of our school values. This will be a whole-school initiative, closely connected to our work with the circle process, and it reflects who we are and who we strive to be as a school community. It is a practice that will grow over time, and I am very excited for our students and staff to embark on this journey together.
Finally, a big shout-out to three of our amazing students who exemplified our school values this week:
Dylan - Dylan showed Chén̓chenstway (holding and lifting each other up) by supporting her classmates and by being dedicated to her learning.
Adele - Adele showed Tímit (perform something with all ones might) by persevering with a math assignment.
Kai - Kai showed Wanáxws (I carry myself in a good way) by modeling for all those around her how to move in this world in a positive manner.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to seeing you next week!
Take care,
Cory Hartling

As part of the new provincial initiative that was announced earlier this year, the Ministry of Education and Child Care has launched a K-12 Literacy Supports web page. The web page offers information for school and district staff including a one-page information sheet to support communications with families about the K-12 Literacy Supports initiative, and links to BC Learning Pathways literacy and numeracy resources. You can also find a new “All About Early Literacy” brochure for parents and caregivers that includes strategies they can use to support learning at home, what to look for, and who to speak to if they have questions or need support (available in multiple languages). Please share these resources with staff and families in your district as part of your back-to-school communications.
