We can be Heroes!
We come from good people. At ST’a7mes school we use our strengths to support one another; we are all connected. We show kindness, treat others with dignity and respect. We care for people in need. We are connected to and we represent our family, ancestors, and community. We work with exertion and diligence.
Ha7lh Skwayel Families -
Halloween! Salmon Camp! Pajama day! Wow! What a week we’ve had. Students are learning that they can be in charge, take initiative and have an impact that benefits other people and the environment.
LEX students worked with our school counsellor Kat Turczyk to set up an awesome haunted house for our Halloween day. Students paraded around the gym in costumes and won prizes for Funniest, Scariest, Best Group and Most Creative.
Sxwi7shen and LEX students were at the Baker family fish camp this week. On Tuesday we were able to witness some catches, on Wednesday there was a day with no catches, and this is like life, isn’t it? How lucky we are to be able to get outside and do this learning on the land, learning how to be heroes and have reciprocal relationships with the elements around us,

Engaging in Learning Conversations with our Kids:
How amazing it is that we live in this territory!
In Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book Braiding Sweetgrass Kimmerer writes, “all of our flourishing is mutual” (166). We must honor the interconnectedness of nature and recognize that humans are responsible for contributing to and bettering the world.
Ask your child about their ideas from their experiences this week when it comes to taking care of the land and letting the land take care of us. How do you promote a mutually flourishing relationship with your family and nature? Create a plan with your kids about giving back to nature, while also recognizing and giving gratitude for the gifts Nature gives us.
Fall Back occurs this weekend on Sunday, November 5th. Please remember to turn your clocks back one hour.
Outside Attire – Much of our learning happens out on the land. Please make sure your child is prepared with weather appropriate clothing, footwear.
PAC Meeting – The next PAC meeting will happen on Thursday, November 16th, 3:15pm in the Library. We would like to hear your voice and have your support. It’d be lovely to have you there.
Backpack Buddies – Please let us know if your family is in need of support with groceries and we can add you to our back pack buddies program.
As you go into this weekend, I hope you have rich and playful conversations with your child about their learning.
Most Sincerely,
Alysa Patching, Principal.
