Friday Update - April 1st

Hello Everyone,

We’ve had a great week reuniting and the hugs have been in abundance this week! What a wonderful community to come back to after Spring Break.  We are right back into the swing of things and in our final stretch of this school year.

We certainly don’t waste anytime with getting back into our rich learning practice.  This week the Spakwus class was at the St’a7mes waterfront harvesting and processing Ch’em’esh herring roe.  Thank you to our Aunties and Elders who came to teach us all about it. “Doing all the work with gratitude in our hearts” is such a powerful way of learning how to be in this world.

We are learning to take good care of our world. The LEX group had the district of Squamish in with their Zero Waste Program. Students were energetically engaged and asked thoughtful questions.

Also we’d like to thank and recognize Youth Theatre Movement for coming to us to present their play “Complicit”.  LEX students took part as a thoughtful audience and participated in rich conversation with the cast and crew after the production.

On a caring note – there have been some questions in the community around talking to children about what they may be hearing on the radio, or seeing on T.V. about the conflict in the Ukraine.  We do have some resources at the school about age appropriate engagement in conversation with children around this topic; and although these resources are geared more towards teachers for their classrooms, they could also be informative for caregivers and families.  If you would like some support or resources to help you with the conversations you are having with your child, please email me at [email protected] and I can share what we have with you.

Have a wonderful weekend of rest and connection,

Sincerely,

Alysa Patching
