PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Family & Community Night – November 18th, 6:00–8:00pm

A reminder that our Family & Community Night, in collaboration with the Squamish Valley PAC, is coming up on Tuesday, November 18th. This evening brings families and community partners together to learn about the work happening in our school, share ideas about our future direction, and explore ways to become involved.

We will also be screening a couple of short films highlighting some of the exciting initiatives taking place at St’a7mes - in particular our cultural work. There will also be some draw prizes and food!

Please RSVP using the flyer below or by replying to this email—this helps us plan food and determine childcare needs.

Land-Based Learning Highlight: Drum-Making Preparation

A big thank you to one of our parents for the donation of a deer hide. This week, students worked alongside Matthew Van Oostdam to skin and prepare the hide for tanning. These hides will eventually become drums—an engaging and meaningful learning experience for our students.

Join Our School Opening and Closing Circles
Families are always welcome to join us for our weekly school opening and closing circles:

  • Opening Circle: Mondays at 10:15am (or the first day of the school week)

  • Closing Circle: Fridays at 2:45pm (or the last day of the school week)
This week, the Sp’aḵw’us/Sx̱wi7shen class led the school after spending the week practicing our end-of-week song. Great work!

Staffing Updates

  • Welcome Curt! Curt is joining our team Tuesday–Friday in a collaborative support teacher role. We’re excited to have him with us.

🥗 School Meal Program

Please see November’s lunch menu attached, in partnership with the Squamish Climate Action Network.

Our School Meal Program ensures students have access to nourishing lunches. We rely on family and community contributions to bridge the gap with government funding and keep the program financially sustainable in order to keep offering the program in its current form.

CHRISTMAS COMMUNITY CARE

Every year Community Christmas Care offers support to hundreds of people in Squamish who need a little extra help around the holidays by filling hampers with food, toys and other goodies. We hope that these hampers provide not only practical help, but also a sign of the community care for each other - neighbours helping neighbours.
